Light House is a communicative space where college students can interact with relaxing objects to relieve their anxiety, share their stories openly, or offer comfort to other students. In a collaboration with Grace Park, Rita Lei, and Melissa Yin, we wanted to create an experience that could present people with the knowledge of others. It was created with the intention to tackle the concept of anxiety, depression, and frustration especially in a highly stressful environment. This was to be a space where people can be cared for, where people will care for the members of their community.
There are two main people that would come to this space - someone anxious and stressed, and someone who wants to offer help. We intend to foster a sense of caring in the community.
For the person who seeks a place to relax from their stressful life, they sit at the space and squeeze a fruit ball depending on why they feel down (family, relationship, or school). A box full of papers lights up, and they can take one paper and read the support that someone has offered them.
For the person who wishes to offer their words of support, they press a cute cat paw. A prompt on the wall will tell them what category to write for, and a box will light up to tell them where to put the encouraging words. On the side, there are papers and pens for them to draw or write on.
